I’m wanting to restrict the flow of my 2 skimmers and increase the main drain flow in an attempt to keep my Betta SE Pro from getting stuck at the skimmer. I’m trying to figure out what position to put the valve handles in. Do I flip them almost completely, with the handles at something like 10 or 11 o’clock? If so, does that restrict water flow to the pump? Thanks!

Sorry, Yes, No.

When you move the skimmer valve to the 10-11, you will be opening up the main drain, so you will restrict flow to the skimmers and open the flow from the main drain.

jark,

Sorry, but I can't understand what you are doing...

If your skimmers are working so well, why do you even need a skimming robot???

I personally would never shut off my skimmers.. If I just had to have a robot skimmer, I'd find another way to keep the robot from getting trapped.

Not trying to be a horse's rear... on the surface, it makes no sense.. Maybe I just can't see the whole picture..

Do your skimmers have operating weir doors???

Thanks,

Jim R.

No worries! I appreciate the clarification and welcome suggestions!

First of all, my pool is literally surrounded by trees, which are constantly dropping debris into the water - leaves, twigs, pollen, you name it. I’ll scoop stuff out and by the time I hang my net in the hooks, there’s more junk floating on the surface. It’s the smaller debris that I’m really trying to clean up. The skimmer baskets work fine and I have nets in them, but those nets get coated with the fine debris. I sometimes have to shut off the pump just to be able to pull them up. Yes, the skimmers have operating weir doors.

I don’t want to shut off the skimmers. It was suggested in a thread about the Betta SE Pro to restrict them a little and open up the main drain more. The SE gets pulled up against the skimmer opening and isn’t powerful enough to pull away. It came with a pool noodle piece that can be cut to size and placed in the skimmer opening in order to prevent this. I’m not so sure I like the look of that, so I was exploring other options.

I bought the skimming robot kind of on impulse. I read a thread and it seemed to address a problem, albeit a minor one. I’m all for anything that reduces maintenance effort, so I bought one. It has a 30 day return policy, but so far, it’s a keeper. The surface of the pool is spotless, even on a very windy day.

I haven’t pulled the net off the hook because there’s nothing to scoop out - probably a first in the 18 years since building the pool! My skimmer baskets have very little in them and the few leaves on the bottom of the pool were probably there when I first put the robot in the water. Other than the issue of the robot getting stuck at the skimmers, I’m delighted with it!
