Do you have a check valve in the plumbing between the pump and the filter? Typically the plumbing has a check valve somewhere to keep the water from back flowing. They can sometimes get wedged open by debris.
 
No JoyfulNoise not at this time. Right now I'm just running hoses and it's odd because i haven't had an issue before. The pool is only a few months old. Now with that said, I am in the process of buying what i need to change over to 2" PVC plumbing. I'll make sure to add a 2lb check valve to the list.
Thanks for that information, I would have thought to add a check valve there.
