Backwashing

I will have my pool a year next month. The sand filter always reads 12 psi. I see that the recommendations to backwash is when it rises 20-25%, but mine never rises. Even during a slam. I do backwash about every other week though. PB recommended every week. Am I backwashing too much or is there such a thing?

Yes.

Believe it or not, a slightly dirty sand filter cleans better than a superclean one. If you don't get a bunch of blown-in dust and debris (like me) you might get by with only one or two backwashes a year.

So even during a slam don't backwash til pressure rises or do you want to get the algea out of the filter by backwashing often?

During a SLAM the pressure will rise pretty fast anyway.
