Hello. I just bought a house with an older pool and am having a problem with the sand filter. Every time I backwash the filter I get a cloud jet of cloudy water that comes out of the return for 15 seconds or so. Here is what I have been doing.
1. Turn off the pump and place the filter in backwash mode.
2. Turn the pump on and run until the sight glass runs clear.
3. Turn the pump off and put the filter in rinse mode.
4. Turn the pump on and run until the sight glass runs clear.
5. Turn the pump back off and place the filter back into filter mode.
6. Turn the pump back on and watch as a jet of cloudy water spews out into the pool for 15 or so seconds before running clear as normal.
What am I missing here?
Here is some additional information that may be relevant. I recently got a pool vacuum. In order to run it I closed the line to the skimmer and main drain (as near as I can tell they both are plumbed to the same return line.) I then opened the lines to the vacuum port in the side of the pool. After running the vacuum for a bit, I reversed the process putting the return valves back to the way they were. Again, I was treated to a jet of dirty water clouding up the pool the same as if I had back washed.
The cloudy water coming out is very very fine, and doesn't appear to be sand.
Anyone have this happen before?
Thanks in advance!
