This pool is two seasons old and after quite a few issues with the pool builder, it has been more or less running smoothly. Until today when the pool cover will not open.

It looks like somehow the ropes got crossed as it now gets jammed if that cross goes in either direction and gets pinched. I have contacted the PB as this seems like a warranty issue but I am wondering if anyone here has this happen? Is it a sign of poor workmanship? Any easy ways to fix it or is this definitely a technician's job?

Thanks in advance!

What model autocover are we discussing?

You probably need to disconnect the rope spool from the motor shaft so you can rotate it to untangle the ropes. And then figure out why one side is not pulling smoothly and causing slack on the rope that is getting tangled.

It is not clear it has anything to do with workmanship.

What periodic maintenance and lubrication does the cover manufacturer recommend?

Thank you! This is a Automatic Pool Covers Inc. underdeck mounted cover. We informed the PB that when fully open, the whole cover was at slight diagonal (3-4" from side to side) but each time he said it was in spec for the device. We were not given any manuals or directions for how to service and/or maintain the device. It was a $15K add on so there is a bit at stake here. :)

I am looking into what the recommended maintenance is supposed to be now.
