Auto leveller suitability

Apologies if this is in the incorrect subtopic. I've been going through the Pool School and ABC's and read that in many cases replacing water is used to lower CH, CYA etc.

I was planning to use an 'auto water leveller' to maintain the water level in two of my pools (vitality pool/hot tub/spa etc), however I just realised that it may inadvertently mess up the water chemistry. Am I correct and so should I avoid using this unit?

Adding fill water will lower or raise the chemistry parameters in the pool water depending on the parameters of the fill water. In most pools (and you posted this to spas forum, so what is the volume you are talking about) the volume difference is so large that it does not have a big effect. Unless you drain a large amount from the pool. Typical splash out has little immediate effect.

I lived in London for several years and I understand the need. Boy to you get a LOT of rain sometimes! Even in London you won't hurt your pool with an auto-leveler. Just make sure you're performing your TFP recommended tests and make adjustments per TFP recommendations. When you get way more rain than normal you may want to add an extra set of tests.

Many thanks for your response Marty. Yes you're correct, the pools being constructed are basically an in-ground concrete spa (with gunite jets, SWG, etc), and an in-ground concrete cold plunge. I will add more details to my sig.

Here are the volume details:
Hydrotherapy/Vitality Pool: 2687L (710 gallons)
Cold Immersion Pool: 1582L (418 gallons)

Thanks for your reply Chris. Yes, there is indeed a lot of rain in London where I am normally based! However I forgot to mention in this thread that these pools are being constructed in Asia (Colombo, Sri Lanka specifically - I will add more details to my sig). During the monsoon periods there is just as much rain here too!

Luckily all these pools are located in a covered/indoor wet spa area. I have ordered the TF100 and have been going through the Pool School info, so will ensure I run the tests as you recommended.

Wow, that's great. You'll be TFP right from the start. Be sure to bring that TF 100 with you. They seem to be very hard to get a reasonable price in SE Asia.

I cannot find any high quality kits in these parts at all, certainly not the recommended TF100 or Taylor 2006 kits.

I only managed to get one sent to me in London thanks to the great customer service from the guys at TFTestkits. Many thanks to them once again. So yes, I'll definitely be taking that with me!

I was afraid that would be the case. Make sure you order the XL option. It has extra reagents. Plenty for a normal pool for a year or more even with extra tests as you learn.
