Auto fill / auto leveler questions / leak at pipe connection

Hi, I replaced my auto fill with an easier to adjust version. The old one was garbage.

I can’t seem to get a very tiny bit of bubbles/leak to stop in my auto fill float valve. A few tiny water bubbles form, where the part connects into the female PCV pipe. (Both part & pipe are plastic.) I can hear an ever so slight run of water if I listen real hard.

I used about 2 - 2.5 rounds of Teflon as well. And I did not want to tighten any further. I used my hand for most of the tightening.

Since this is a pool, is this even a concern? I imagine some water would be used daily anyhow from normal operation.

Let me know thoughts? I attached a photo of my new valve which is so much easier to adjust.

Welcome to TFP.

Do you have an overflow drain on your pool?

Is your autofill causing water to flow out the overflow drain?

I do have an overflow drain. It was built to run along the side of the house. (Photo). There is no water going into the drain - autofill or otherwise. (Unless we’re splashing around).

Update: i re-threaded the new float valve with Teflon (put a little more toward the very back threads). Not sure if this is the reason, but the re-install seems good now. I am dreading replacing these again… seems many people have to every few years. Thoughts?

That is not 6he type of overflow drain I was asking about. Some pools have an overflow drain to keep the water level below a maximum level so that water never overflows over the coping.

The autofill valve cycles often enough that it wears itself out in a few years. They are not very robust.

Is this the drain you’re talking about? This is my overflow drain pipe that’s in the pool. (Attached)

Yes.

So your auto-fill can leak and you will never see it because the water will flow out the overflow drain.

You may want to plug that drain for a while and see if your pool water level rises without any rain.
