Hey Forumites, a pleasure to be here! From Perth, WA in Australia. I came across this group after querying if my local pool shop were actually helping me or not and want to look after my pool myself. Felt like I was putting way too much different chemicals in!
I recently had a fibre glass pool installed, 25,000L with Waterco chlorinator, filter, VSD pump and 12kw heat pump. nice to be on board and look forward to learning alot!

Hello over there!! So nice to have you! Pull up a chair and sit a few!

Do you have your own test kit yet? If not take a look at this: Total Pool Water Testing Kit, Salt Water – Clear Choice Labs They are our go to for your side of the world.

Oh wait! Pool stores will test it for free......................right??? Well is it really free if you walk out of the store with your arms full and you wallet empty??? You will find you don't need to or really want to go to the pool store or use a pool service. Everything you need for your pool can be bought at your regular stores. For us it is Lowes or Walmart. Find a good source for liquid chlorine and you will be good to go.

I see you have this:
Waterco chlorinator,
I am sad to tell you it is not needed or really wanted. SAY WHAT?? Yeah it is easy to use BUT the tablets add extra stuff to your pool like CYA (stabilizer). If you get too much CYA in the water the only way to remove it is to exchange some of the water. Take a look a this: FC/CYA Levels This explains the FC (Free chlorine) & CYA relationship. It is a case of too much of a good thing over time. You will see from the chart in the link how your pool will need more chlorine the higher the CYA levels are.

We can't wait to help you learn how to keep your pool clean and clear while keeping your wallet fat!

Hey Kimkats

Thanks for the intro, have been looking at test kits tonight actually so that link has come in very handy! I agree about the pool shop, many years ago on the East coast i had a guy that was brilliant, a small independent pool man, however the big franchise places just seem to forever give me different chemicals and forever chasing my tail. Glad i stumbled upon the site!
