My SWG quit working (error code 170) and I still have to run a few more tests to see exactly where the problem might be. In the interim and possibly until next spring, would it be okay to float tri-chlor tablets in lieu of bleach? If I need to replace one of the boards or the entire control unit, I prefer to do this in the spring.

Depends on your CYA level. Every 10ppm FC added from trichlor will add 6ppm to your CYA. If you have the CYA budget for it, then sure. Otherwise you'll be draining water cone the spring time.

FC loss is really low once water temperatures get below 75F. Would bleach chlorination really not be an option?
