Are you using an electronic tester

Electronic testers such as what?

I use a salt meter and have a pH meter and back them up with salt and pH chemistry tests when I get unusual results on the meters.

Well, for example this called Safe2Dip:

My AquaRite SWCG gives me salinity. I am looking for more frequent testing, and then go analog if something is awry and on a regular schedule. Our pool will get infrequent use, but when used, we have a large family. One of those situations where most of the week, it is two of us, and weekends we will see 6 or 9 and then occaisionally 10+. I am looking for best practices, wile balancing time and back of the envelope.

And then there is this for automated balancing when pH does too high. Probably not best for first year, but maybe an addition in the future?

The best practice is to always back up any electronic tester with chemical drop tests.

Do not rely on the salinity level displayed in a Hayward system. It is a calculated number based on volts and amps and is not measured.

I got the $16 PH tester with the TF-Pro when i bought a new kit. After using a couple times, I'll be sticking with the drop tests. Takes too long to get an accurate reading with the meter.
