Are anode rods in SWG pools a new thing?

I have an RV and I have an anode rod in the heater that I replace annually. I had my pool converted to SW in 2012 and all has been good. I do not have a heater. I have been reading on a FB group about people installing anode rods in their plumbing as obviously that would sacrifice itself before other components (metal). It got me wondering: Should I do this? What's the skinny on these now?

Look at all the pool equipment you have where the pool water touches. Everything is PVC. Unless you have some metal objects in your pool you do not need a sacrificial anode.

Pool manufacturers sell you the other equipment in addition to the SWG. They would not sell you the SWG that would corrode the other equipment you buy from them.
