Your cell is 8 years old.

The average cell life is about 5 to 7 years.

At some point, the cell will begin to fail. When it does, the instant salinity reading will begin to drift lower than actual.

I recommend the K-1766 salt test kit to track salinity independently of the box so that you can detect when the cell has begun to fail.

People who depend only on the box often keep adding salt without realizing that the cell is failing and the actual salinity is going too high.

I haven’t found a way to get that drop test for any sort of reasonable cost where I am. I have typically relied on the pool store - they use a digital reader.

I did order some of the AquaChek test strips which I’ll use until I can get the drop test.

Ok, the main thing is to compare the instant salinity to an independent salt test so that you know when the cell begins to fail.
