Aqua Plus salt system, communication error

Our pool system keeps shutting off and coming back on. Sometimes, it will go off and on within seconds, repeatedly and other times it will run for a long time. We keep getting a communication error on the display. My husband checked the transformer and it is getting very hot. The Ohms are supposed to be around 2.8 and will spike to 17 and have gone up to 43. Does anyone have any experience with this problem?

Thanks,
Vicki

When you're testing the transformer, the ohms are inconsistent?

How old is the unit?

What is the exact error message?

Do you have a remote controller for the unit?

Yes they are inconsistent. We are not sure how old everything is. We bought the house about 2 years ago and the pool was here then. We think it was put in around 2002, I don't know if anything has been replaced. Last year, we had to replace the salt cell and motherboard.

It just says "comm error". Yes they are inconsistent. We are not sure how old everything is. We bought the house about 2 years ago and the pool was here then. Shut off power to everything and disconnect the wires going to the transformer from the circuit board.

Insert the test probes and measure resistance between the Blue & White wires and then the Violet & Gray wires.

The readings should be 2.0 - 2.9 Ohms.

If the readings of either of the two measurements are not 2.0 – 2.9 Ohms, the transformer is faulty and should be replaced (GLX-XFMR).

Here is a document that describes additional tests. At the end is a description of how to read the serial number of the box for the date code. The serial number is on the inside of the door.

Is the error "Comm Error 1" or "Comm Error 2"?

‘Comm Error 1’ is usually a false error caused by an abrupt power outage.

‘Comm Error 2’ is usually a misplaced wire in the sensor terminal block, a failing wired remote, a failing local display or a failing main circuit board.

Check the wire going from the local display to the circuit board to make sure that it's connected securely.

Do you have a remote for the system or do you do everything at the box?
