Aqua genie question

I just realized that the orifice gasket needs to be replaced and I need to add sealant.
Will I cause any damage by just popping it off adding the new gasket with underwater sealant while the water level is low on the skimmer right now and do this repair ? I don't want to lower the water level below the skimmer?

Vinyl pool? If so, removing the gasket/faceplate while water is at that level will likely result in water behind the liner.

Yes vinyl pool..... I took it off with no issue. The only problem I encountered is the return on my aqua genie skimmer is such a tight squeeze I could pack the putty in there properly. So it didn't hold
