would you rather run a smaller GPD pump or a higher GPD pump for my setup? I'm finding some of the ECON T series pumps available and my choices for pump 2.5GPD, 5 GPD or 15GPD pump?
I would always choose larger if the price is the same. Why? it will take less time to dose with the larger pump. At your size pool and 2 gallons a week, it won't matter, get the cheapest.
Maybe i'm overthinking this and it doesn't matter? Also, my choices for tank size are 7.5 gallons or 15 gallons. My basic TFP knowledge tells me i should be storing my chlorine in a cool dark place, and didn't know if the effectiveness/quality of the chlorine in a larger tank would be poor after sitting in the outside storage tank? My rough estimations based on last year show I only use between 1.5-2 gallons a week normally when i am not SLAMMING, so would a huge tank be bad? hey thanks for your help I truly appreciate it
Ok, now we are talking. Your thought is spot on. I'm lucky, my equipment pad is next to my garage. I was able to drill a small hole for the feed line between the two and keep the tank in the garage. I didn't really see bad degradation because of the heat. When I used it (now SWG), chlorine prices were less. 12.5% degrades faster than 6%. So there is a triangle tradeoff between concentration %, price and degradation. Sweet spot is likely 7.5%/10% liquid chlorine on this front.
The way the stenner is setup, You need a couple gallons in the tank before it reaches the pickup...you don't put the pickup on the bottom of the tank.
I would certainly look to put the tank in the shade (behind the pool on the north side, under a deck), build a little shade cover over it, or some people bury them partially in the ground. If you do a search on TFP around stenner, lots of threads.
I think you would be fine with a 7.5 gallon tank. If you decide to bury it, the 15 gallon would allow you to bury it deeper, you just don't have to fill it all the way.
Can you post a pic or two of your setup?
It might also be MUCH better for you to get a Salt Water Chlorine Generator. Don't have to fight lugging jugs, buying a stenner, worrying about chlorine degradation etc.
@Mdragger88 has a bunch of experience with SWCG in smaller pools. What is the brand you like
@Mdragger88?
FWIW, I had the stenner setup for a couple years and it worked well.
@Newdude forced me to buy an SWCG. They are magic. Turn them on and they just make chlorine. Stenner is good, take my SWCG, I fill in the pool.
Hope that helps!
