Any ideas what this spot could be?

Popped up pretty quickly. Tried brushing off with nylon brush with no luck. Chem levels are good.

Did you add shells to the plaster when it was installed?
There are many reports that abalone shells will deteriorate over time and show a black spot as shown in the picture.
