Any ideas for a skimmer sock on a non-standard pool skimmer?

We converted our koi pond to a pool, using the Savio Skimmer from the koi pond. The basket catches large debris, but I'd love to come up with a skimmer sock that would work. For now, I clean the filter every week, but that is getting tedious. I have a sewing machine, but what material should I buy?
