What is the best way to get rid of flies when BBQ'ing?

When eatting outside they come by the dozen.

Mind you we don't have food lying around before the BBQ. No vegetation, just grass and privacy evergreens.

Have people tried the fly magnet -fly traps (where they get trapped in a container)?

It's not a problem when there is no food around and where hangout on the patio. It's just when we have BBQ food.

This stuff- it’s little granules, this little jar is almost a lifetime supply. I got mine at the co-op.
put a little in a small tupperware container or something you can throw away with some beer, coke, or food grease (something to attract them) you can use just water but it’s not as effective & set it up high out of reach of pets or kids. The flies die almost immediately.
I also fog before parties with that ryobi fogger in the picture and a little bifenthrin mixed with water to keep things away (flies, mosquitoes, bull gnats etc.)

Thank you! Will definitely try it.

With the defogger does it leave a residue around the furniture or table?

No - it takes a very small amount of bifenthrin (maybe an oz) the rest 1/2 gal is just water. It has to still be the consistency of water or it won’t fog properly. We used to use a propane fogger & I didn’t notice any residue either. Haven’t tried the fogger juice in the ryobi yet but they say you can. It’s just expensive compared to the bifenthrin.

Thanks! I'm going to try this out. I've got some fly traps now that come with a bag of granules and I'm sure those were just an overpriced version of this.

I didn't even think/know about the fogger idea. I'm definitely going to try that as well. I can't stand having flies around when we're trying to enjoy a meal outdoors.

Those little disposable fly bags work! They get so full it’s gross 🤮 don’t put them near where you wanna be as they really stink! You want the kind that you can close the lid on when you’re done with it so it doesn’t spill 🤢

Yes, they definitely work and do stink! I've got three of the big ones and I place them at least 30-40 feet from where we'll be. I'm honestly conflicted on if they help or not. It's almost like they attract even more flies, haha. Double-edged sword for sure.
