Am I doing harm?

Since it has been so cold I have been able to add a jug of bleach once a week and after 7 days my FC is down to 6 and I add another jug. Is it ok to do it this way as opposed to adding small amounts each day? (Summer is a different story and I need a jug a day to keep up)

ht,

I can't see where that would be an issue.. It might make you use slight more chlorine than necessary, but it is not going to hurt anything..

In the summer, where do you normally run your CYA level??? Adding more CYA (within reason) may help you decrease your FC demand...

Thanks for posting,

Use pool math to get you in the ballpark and confirm you FC loss, but you will need to know the concentration of the bleach you are using and a current analysis of your pool water. It is possible your bleach is less concentrated than you assume so check your assumptions with pool math and confirm with your test kit after you dose.

Also important this time of season is your water temperature and the level of organic debris (leaves etc.) in your pool water.

I am only adding 1/2 gallon of 10% bleach every 10-14 days and keeping my FC ppm at 6 or above but my water temp is at 50 degrees and I use a leaf net over the pool surface.
