Could somebody explains this to me? I am confused on how to lower my alkalinity. I do not understand that explanation.

That explanation could be worded better.

The crucial thing is that there isn't a way to lower TA alone -- adding acid lowers TA and pH. But there is a way to raise pH alone -- aeration does that.

So to lower TA, you first lower both TA and pH with acid, then you raise pH to its original level with aeration (or, if you're not in a hurry, by just waiting -- pH will rise naturally).

Its saying that pH is the important parameter. If you arent having to add acid frequently to reduce the pH, then you can leave the TA alone. As you keep adding acid for the pH, the TA will come down slowly by itself.
