Hi. I recently slacked off my pool due to illness so needless To say I have algae. Fc is 14 today but still algae present. I’m on my way to get chlorine. I know I need to turn off swg and lower PH to 7.2. Cya is about 50. Can I start the SLAM process and add CYA tonight to increase it closer to 60/70? Or do I just worry about clearing the algae then add CYA? Also, once I turn off the pump in the evening and take the reading for the overnight test and retest in the morning I retest with it the pump being off correct?

Keep CYA at current until after SLAM. Raising CYA now will just lead to more chlorine usage.
Lower pH and SLAM away. SLAM Process

Don't worry about anything else until you can pass the 3 exit criteria listed in the SLAM page. Don't worry about OCLT until your water is clear and CC is less than .5.

You can run the SWCG during SLAM to reduce liquid usage; you just have to make sure it's off when you get the OCLT portion of the SLAM exit.

Currently the CC is less than .5. I’m currently running the swg at 100. I did this couple days ago when I noticed my fc low hence algae.

As soon as you stock-up on liquid chlorine, I would just set this to zero or turn it off. Our cells simply can't compete with algae so it's just burning them up faster. Let the liquid chlorine be the primary agent for the SLAM. During the SLAM Process, the pump should be on continuously, but low speed or rpm is fine. But water should always be moving to circulate chlorine adequately.

Good luck!

Ok so keep it on pump 24-7?

Yes. That's a required part of the SLAM process, but a low speed is fine.
Is it safe for us to enjoy our pool during the SLAM process? Will the high level of Chlorine damage our hair or irritate our eyes? It’s 120 degrees and humidity is almost 80-% lol 😂

Safe to swim IF you can see the bottom of the Deep End, and FC is above MIN and at or below SLAM level for your CYA.

My pool seems to be clearing up as today I haven’t seen any algae residue after brushing walls. Would it be safe for me to do the overnight test tonight or give it one more day? No algae and CC is 0.

So if I do pass, then I can let for fc lower to range then turn on swg correct? And it doesn’t pass then continue with SLAM correct?

To end a SLAM, you must pass all three criteria....
  1. OCLT pass with FC loss <= 1ppm
  2. CC <=.5 AND
  3. Pool is stooopid clear. (Yes, your pool is stooopid clear)
