Algae Problem Under Control, But Cloudy Water Still

Hey everyone,

I had my pool turn green overnight. Started SLAM on 5/25/2024 and got it blue again (6/1/2024, but been cloudy for days while still maintaining SLAM level (16 ppm w/CYA of 40). I use the FAS-DPD test for FC & CC with Taylor K-2006C test kit.

Before I started slamming, got TA = 80, pH = 7.4, CYA = 40, Cal. Hardness = 140.

I have vacuumed a couple times, brushed 3-4 times per day when green (every time I added more chlorine). I still brush after adding chlorine to SLAM level, but brush 1-2 times per day right now.

It seems clear the algae is dead. Last night (6/3/2024), added chlorine to 16 ppm FC @ 11:30 p.m. then tested @ 7:30 a.m. and got 15 ppm FC & 0 CC but water still cloudy. The chlorine I am using is Pool Essentials Chlorinating Liquid (sodium hypochlorite 10%). The water changed on 6/1/2024. I can see the first step clearly, but every step down gets incrementally more blurry and can't see bottom of pool. I have a sand filter and pump has been running 24/7 except to backwash when needed. Guess there was so much algae that now all the dead algae is just obstructing view suspended in water column? Do I keep SLAMMing until the water clears up completely and keep brushing and vacuuming? Or do I need to be doing something additional or something different altogether?

Thanks in advance.

There is still algae in there and it's making the pool cloudy. It might be dead or maybe just hanging on, but my experience is that, when the algae dies, it drops to the bottom of the pool. Keep on SLAMming on. You're making good progress. Don't give up now.

You don't need to do the overnight chlorine loss test until the water is crystal clear with no signs of living or dead algae and CC is < 0.5. Your water isn't clear yet, so keep going.
