Algae from pool fountains

My pool has 4 fountains in the pool deck which rarely get used unless the kids decide to turn them on, possibly once a week or less. I never really gave it much thought until yesterday when they turned them on and they seemed to cause some cloudy water plumes initially in the pool. My question - is there a way to better prevent "bad stuff" in an infrequently unused bit of plumbing or is it best to run them on a more regular basis? My main concern with running them is the amount of aeration that is caused by the fountains and driving up the PH too fast, I already add about 1/2 gal of muriatic acid per week with the SWG alone.

That's pretty much what I figured was the easiest answer but I've learned many times on these forums that there are some real creative solutions to problems that people came up with so I figured I'd see what options are out there that I didn't think of.

Thanks
