Moved from here.
My problem is algae - all summer so far.
I have a 24" sand filter - IG 20x40 hybrid pool. It's been over 5 years since sand was replaced but, I did the "hose sand cleaning procedure" (as seen on youtube) this spring.
My water is crystal clear but my bottom is dirty (still talking about the pool here). Repeated vacuuming cleans it up but the stuff is back the next morning. I've tried D-E filter aid and I backwash & rinse 2-3 times during the vacuuming as well as afterwards.
Just now, I'm vacuuming to waste as an experiment. I got about 15-20 minutes vaccing, and now I'm waiting for the water to fill back up to the skimmer level. At this rate it will take all day. Figured this would be the case.
Should I bite the bullet and replace the sand?
