Hi,

I started treating my pool a week ago. I put the metal free in on Thursday last week. The pool got cloudy in two days. It is now turning a bright greenish so I suspect it’s algae. My free chlorine ifs zero. I think the ascórbico acid is eating it up. I keep reading that to raise the chlorine levels too fast. I have liquid chlorine on hand. How fast should I raise it per day? I appreciate the help. This is quite frustrating. The pool was clear as a bell earlier last week and balanced. Until I drop the chlorine levels. I did add some of the algae preventer as well. But that obviously did not help.

Oh boy. :( You won't like this answer, but I think your algae is back. :brickwall: Did you add Polyquat 60 to the water before letting the FC fall so low? Yes, the AA will eat-up some chlorine, and doing an AA this time of year is risky due to the elevated water temps. It sure looks like the beginning of an algae bloom. You can do an Overnight Chlorine Loss Test to confirm, but I suspect you may need to go back into a new SLAM Process. As such, that would be a good time to try and mechanically filter as much iron out as possible with polyfill.

I do see now where you said you did use an algaecide, but perhaps that wasn't enough. Here is the AA page if you didn't see it already. If you wish to try and another AA after confirming there is no algae, post back. We'll try to give you some last-minute tips to help.

I did and I’m fighting keeping chlorine up. I can shock but I was holding off and got a couple gallons of liquid Chloe today. Trying to balance this thing is a pain. Good news is it’s cloudy but not slimy on the surface. How much liquid chlorine can you add?

How much liquid chlorine can you add?
You'll need to use the PoolMath APP's "Effects of Adding" to determine how much liquid chlorine is about 2 ppm worth. Then as stated in the article, slowly add about 2 ppm worth at a time and monitor. If no staining appears, add a little more each time until you hopefully make it to your ideal FC range as noted on the FC/CYA Levels.

Thanks I’m reading through and may have missed it. I’ve been crash coursing it this week. I think vet school was easier 😂
