Algae after a weeks holiday

Hi

I've just returned from a weeks holiday. My pool was crystal when I left it. Bumped the FC up to the high end for my CYA. 10ppm. Then left a couple of trichlor pucks in the floating dispenser.

I thought all should be well.

Returned to this:

Algae all over one side of the pool. Even right up to the water line.

I'm going to SLAM this week. But I'm away for another holiday for 2 weeks from Saturday, so what is best?

Covering the pool? Use more pucks? Dichlor?

I've had this pool 10 years and never had as bad a season for algae as this year!! Something has changed.

Cheers
Joe

Joecoyle:

SLAM the pool. If you are leaving for a few weeks, your best bet for would be SLAM the pool a few days before you leave and keep the pool at SLAM level. I would cover the pool with a tarp (securely) and add PolyQuat 60, just as if you were closing the pool. Do not know what state you are in and if you close the pool.

Although, please make sure that the back yard is secure and everything is closed (all gates, etc.). Probability is that the sun consumed the chlorine. Covering the pool will make a big difference. Have a neighbor check on the pool to make sure cover is on tight, etc. Your PH may drop, so bring up to 7.8 before leaving.

How did you get a test kit to the United Kingdom?
