Air Relief Tube and Filter Assistance

I found this Air Relief filter in my pump basket from when the pool person closed the pool. I have the Hayward C4030. So, now I'm wondering what its's purpose is and if I need it, as its delaying my pool opening. From the diagrams that I have been able to find, it looks like i actually am missing a tube. Where does it actually go? Thanks!

You kinda need it, but you can go ahead and put the filter back together and use it if you have to. You can order one and have it ready next time you open the filter.

The tube is about 2½" long. I wonder if it got dropped in the bottom of the filter housing?
