Took me a while to pin this down, but finally figured out that I am getting air into my pump ONLY when using the flow reducer on one intake and the skimmer on the other. Yet another reason I'd love it if my skimmer would work without the reducer on the other intake. Can anyone advise on what's going on here and how I might resolve? I'm very confident there is no air getting into the pump at all when the reducer is left off. I've cranked down the hose clamps extra hard, doesn't seem have made a difference

Flow reducers on the suction side of the pump decreases pressure (higher suction) in the plumbing between the reducer and the pump making it more likely to leak in air at any o-ring or seal. Try some pool lube on the pump lid gasket and see if that helps.
