We're noticing that when we have the skimmer turned on, we're getting air bubbles in only one of the 2 jets. If we turn on just the main drain, we get no air bubbles. Also, our skimmer does not have a door (weir?). Should it? I also noticed there's a vortex in the skimmer when I lift the lid. Is not having a door causing an air issue? My husband didn't see any holes or mounts for a weir so I'm thinking it never had one. We just moved in a few weeks ago so we're still learning. Maybe our water is too low?

Leave the main drain turned on at least 10% and enough that you don’t get air bubbles.

You only have one skimmer? Your skimmer alone cannot give enough water to the pump. That causes the air bubbles and vortex. Opening the main drain gives the pump more water.

Your water level should be halfway up the skimmer mouth.

The weir door is a key part to make the skimmer function properly. Every skimmer has one.

Post pics of your skimmer. Are there numbers or letters on the back of your skimmer cover?

Right now we do have both open, skimmer and main drain - it's 75% skimmer and 25% main drain and still have bubbles from just one jet. Yes we only have one skimmer. Should we do 75/25 with most going to main drain? I'll get pics of the skimmer and also look for a numbers on the lid. Thanks!

Ok so here's pics of the skimmer lid (with numbers), the valve settings (the hubs just changed them, I think both are fully open now??) and the skimmer box.

You have a Hayward SP-1085 Wide Mouth skimmer. This is the manual for it - https://hayward-pool-assets.com/ass...Series-Auto-Skim-SP1084-1085.pdf?fromCDN=true

The weir door is Hayward SPX1082K...

The comments on Amazon say:

The holes should be bellow the water level. Nearly impossible to see. You have to put your hand in the skimmer and “feel for it”. Once you have the new float barrier, you will see what to feel for. Its a 2min replacement, no tools needed. Snap on...
