I am in need of a new pump and live in SoCal. Anyone out there have some thoughts on the cost-benefit difference between dual speed and variable speed pumps for AGP? I have my eye on the Powerflo VS 300, Powerflo Matrix, and Dynamo.

I've been looking as well. Seems like the general consensus for AGPs is that if your pump is in good condition, to just replace your single speed motor with a dual speed as that will be the cheapest option at ~$200. If you need a new pump and motor, then go VS as the price difference between VS and dual isn't too far apart. VS pumps also use a different, more efficient motor design so even at the same speed, a variable speed pump will use less power.
