After vacumeing,what order do i do things to prevent

HI

I have a in ground pool 28'x13' with old maxflo hayward pump motor. I have this one basic question,after i complete my vacuming,i go to pump room,kill the power,then return to pool inlet,un hook my hose,and as soon as i do i see lots stuff like what i vacume up,coming back from the pump screen basket. IS there away to prevent this ? In what order should i do things to keep the junk in the pump basket,before i empty and clean it? Inquistive minds just want to know .

Order yourself another basket for the skimmer. Remove the vacuum plate and hose, then remove the basket and with filter on, place the clean basket in. This will allow you to pull all debris out without creating a mess.
