New pool owner. We have an intex salt water system with a sand filter for an above ground pool.
I run the backwash for 3-5 minutes and then the Rinse for 2-3 minutes. The outcoming water starts out very dark and then gets clear. If I then put the valve back into filter mode it shoots very dark water into the pool for 5-10 seconds.
I can also hear a rattling that sounds like it’s coming from the top of the sand filter. Is it possible there’s air in there that needs to be released?? Thank you so much for any suggestions!

Open it up and take a look. Make sure your gasket is properly seated.

How new is this pool? Fresh install? What kind of sand did you use?

Brand new set up. And I used filtered water from the house to fill it. I used the Clorox filter sand plus in the filter. I’ll try opening it up. This is all new to me so I really appreciate your help!!

All brand new should not be able to turn your water dark. It looks like the Clorox filter sand “plus” may not be sand, but zeolite. Mixed reviews here on the forum about that.

Curious to see what it looks like. If you have any left in the bag, put a little in a white container and add water - would be interested to see if it releases any color into the water.

Personally, I’d dump it and use regular pool sand.

did you use less of the clorox sand plus than regular sand? i noticed the bag said 25 lb of it replaces 50 lb sand. if your filter calls for 50lb sand and you used 50lb clorox plus, it might be too much material and that is why it is blowing out.

Thanks so much for input!! When I opened up the filter, the top had a greasy gross layer of brown sludge, prob 1/4 inch thick. I had a 50lb bag of pool sand so I dumped that Clorox stuff, rinsed everything, and put in the fresh sand and have it running again. To answer someone’s question about the Clorox sand product- I did use just the one bag as it said it replaces a 50lb bag of sand. Hopefully this new sand does the trick. Thank you!!
