Aeration causes pH rise?

I had similar questions as the OP, but I think you guys have helped answer them. I had my pool re-tiled, new coping stones, and they did a decent amount of plaster/marcite repairs as well...which I assume would lead to higher PH levels in my pool (which it is currently reading around 8.5). I will be adding some muratic acid to bring it down...and I also have some Chlorox red bottle that reduces PH (I am new to pools this year).

Also regarding aeration...are you saying that if I have all my returns pointed up toward the water surface (they aren't, they are pointed sideways, angled down, as I was told it is good to have your pool water slightly circulating around like a slow whirlpool), this will lead to the PH levels going up in the pool? How does this happen?

pH rise is caused by CO2 outgassing from the pool water. Aeration accentuates that process.

What is 'Chlorox red bottle'?

Aeration is what happens when you shake up a bottle of Coke. The pH rises and it doesn't burn so much when you chug it. It's just the same in a pool except there's a whole lot less carbonation and a whole lot more liquid, so you don't actually see it fizz and foam.

The Clorox red cap is pH down. Dry acid. Since you own it, and it's hazmat if you try to throw it away, use it up. Just don;t buy any more. It leaves behind sulfites. PoolMath can still give you the dose for dry acid.
