With the CC at 1, hold off on adding more CYA. You need to SLAM while your CYA is low. You will need less chlorine that way.

Been a few days since I've posted but I just thought I'd wait until I had this salt level situation taken care of. Here are my numbers for this evening taken at about 5:00.

FC = 3.5 (Was 4.5 at a 9:00 last night and 3.5 at 5:00 this evening after a clear, hot, sunny day; no time to test this morning unfortunately)
CC = 0
PH = 7.8
TA = 65 (Between 60-70)
CYA = 45
Salt = 3200

I didn't lose much chlorine between last night and this evening (about 1 ppm) and my CC is 0. Does this indicate that a SLAM is unecessary? My water has been very clear throughout this entire process.
I was thinking it may be ok to install my new salt generator and chord since I've finally got the salt level down. Before doing that I will increase the chlorine to 5 but will wait to hear some of your opinions on whether or not this a good time for this.
This whole process has been incredibly helpful and I really can't thank all of you enough for the confidence that you have helped me gain in taking care of my pool.
 
Personally, I would want the confidence of knowing that the pool passed an OCLT. Losing 1ppm at non-shock levels isn't the same. I would plan it when you can get up early... You would only have to boost that FC to shock level the night before. My bet is that you will pass. Just my two cents.
 
Thanks. I'll plan on doing an OCLT tonight after bringing my pH down to around 7.2 (It's at 7.8 now). I'm assuming I should go with a shock level of about 18 since my CYA is around 45? I have an SWG pool but the chart only goes down to 60 so I just substituted the level for a non-SWG pool. Also, should I just wait until my FC levels have come back down post shock before installing my new salt cell and cord?
 
I would go 20 on the shock level. We suggest rounding up to the nearest 10 on CYA values as the test is logarithmic, not graduated in the testing cylinder. Therefore, think of your CYA as 50.

As for SWG answer, someone else will chime in.
 
Ok got my pH to 7.4 and retested my CYA. Duplicate tests read at 40 so I went with a shock level of 16. Tested after 1 hour and was at 16 and will retest again to be sure before going to bed. Is there a minimum number of hours on the OCLT because I won't be able to retest until about 11:00 or so tonight. Just wondering when I can test in the morning and expect accurate results.
Will post again in the morning.
 
Tested again last night at about 11:00 and FC was between 16.5 and 17. Got the exact same result at 6:30 this morning. CC was between 0 and .5. Does this mean I passed the OCLT? I thought about maintaining at that level for one more day just to make sure but not sure it's necessary.

Still waiting on a response on installing new salt cell and cord but I'm thinking I'm good. Just have to read up on how to reset and calibrate everything.

Sounds like you passed the OCLT and the CC tests. Assuming the water is crystal clear will no sign of algae anywhere, you just need to let the FC drop and start maintenance mode with your new SWG cell.

Thanks Jason. I'll probably install some time tomorrow once I read up on calibrating my salt cell. I decided to maintain an FC of 17 all day just because I have extra bleach and just to make sure. Will probably do another OCLT tonight just to confirm.
 
Thanks Jason. Didn't realize it was that simple. For some reason, I thought I saw in the manual something about reseting and calibrating when installing a new one but I wasn't reading about that specifically at the time.
Marian I do plan to adjust the CYA up to 70 or so. I'm going to follow all the recommendations on adjusting water chemistry from this website for SWG pools.
 
Thanks a lot. I was lost when I first purchased my home. Like I said in my first post, TFP has been an invaluable resource. I definitely appreciate the attention you and Jason have given my posts. I couldn't have done it without your guidance.
