Hi.

I’m after some advice. We have had an in-ground concrete pool shell installed and coping laid. The design includes a 4x3 m concrete slab entertaining area adjacent to the pool (will be tiled). The slab has been poured hard up to the bond beam and coping of the pool with NO expansion joint.
Is this an issue. It is my understanding that an expansion joint is essential in controlling future cracking. Would appreciate opinions and experiences.

Yes there should be an expansion joint. What has the patio guy said?

Yes, you need the expansion joint.

You can saw cut the concrete along the coping down to the ground to create an expansion joint. Basically decouple the concrete deck from the bond beam.
