Pool is about 20 years old. Previous owner put it in, so I’m unfamiliar with the exact history of the pool.

The concrete deck is an eyesore in places. It’s cracked, chipped, and has settled in places. What can reasonably be done to improve this (without totally breaking the bank)? And how concerned should I be structurally about the concrete?

I attached a few pictures.

I am planning to replace the liner very soon. Should I look into repairing the deck before replacing the liner? Or does the order of operations there not matter?

Cracking is what old concrete does. Once it begins there is nothing you can do to stop it.

Replace the concrete deck before the liner. You don't know what the else will be uncovered around your coping and liner track when the deck is demoed. And you don;t want concrete debris falling on the new liner.

Thanks for the response. I was hoping there was a more affordable solution than demoing the deck. But I do understand why it’s important to take care of that before the liner

The settled areas will require someone to jack-up the slab and then inject foam underneath it (assuming the slab didn’t crumble when they jack it up). It’s a temporary solution as the deck will likely start to settle again. The cracked areas can be patched but any patch is going to look like even more of an eye sore unless you went with a patch and then did something like an acrylic overlay. This is just how old decks are - they have a finite life. You’d be better off saving the money up to do a full renovation (liner, deck, and coping plus any other pool repairs).
