First season as pool owners, now one month in our new home.

I’ve been surprised how often I’m having to add muriatic acid.

The pH seemed like it was always creeping up every day I’d test. Our pool has a bubbler and I found a forum post and realized that keeping it running the for majority of the day was my first culprit.
But now even with it off, I’m having to add acid every 1-3 days. (Using TFP app)

Is adding acid biweekly “normal”?

Welcome to the forum!
What is the TA of your pool water? What is the TA of your fill water? How much fill water do you have to add due to evaporation? Please add your location and pool details to your profile.
I suggest you read through Pool Care Basics - Trouble Free Pool and even look at a few of our videos TFP-TV - Trouble Free Pool

Pool’s TA has ranged 75 - 90, fill water TA is 40.

Haven’t had to fill too much really, just maybe and “inch or two” twice.

The pH might be 7.5 and then every 2-3 days it’ll be up to >8.2 requiring a 2-4 cups of muriatic acid.

I’ve just been surprised by adding 4-8 cups of acid weekly.

The CH is what I feel like is high here in Oklahoma, currently 600. And the tap fill water is 250.

As the pH has been a tendency to run high, I’ve been fighting scale for the first time.

I’m just getting the hang of it, obviously. Hopefully will try to keep managing this better and better and figure out how to get rid of some of the light scale that’s shown up on the brick coping.

Is this new plaster?

Keep the pH in the 7's. Why is your CH of the pool water so high if you have not had to add fill water?

The pool is 3 years old. We are the new owners for only the last two months.
After ordering my tfp kit, the CH has been high the entire time we’ve owned it.

Work the CH lower by draining before big rain storms, etc. Best if you can get it below 500 ppm.
