Quick question: Can you add more than 1 lb of CYA at a time?

I have near zero CYA currently, multiple tests began to fog out the dot but never made it disappear, but to play it safe I’m calling it 20 in Pool Math. It’s recommending right around 11 lbs. I’ve read about the sock or shirt approach, and have seen approaches taken by folks doing more than 1 lb. when working with dry CYA.

I just received two 4 pound bags. I saw with the t-shirt approach where you can fit more, and anchor it in front of a return. I’m considering doing two 4lb shirts in front of two separate returns. Does that sound like a legitimate approach? The last thing I want is to do is be so impatient that I do it poorly. Thoughts?

I can get ~6lbs into a skimmer sock, so that's usually where I start. No issue with more than 1lb, you just typically don't want to overshoot, especially if you already have algae.

I decided to hang them from the diving board, the return is to the left, in the picture.

This is right before my second shake and squeeze. Still a lot in there.

I got too curious this morning and open a sack to see if it was just cloudy dissolved chemicals, it was not, it still had granules in it.

I’ve brushed, but it seems heavy and settled in the middle. Anything specific need to be done? @PoolStored @reggiehammond for vis

For the granules on the floor, they’re going to take a while to dissolve. I’d brush them into your main drains if operable. They’ll end up back in the filter and dissolve eventually. For your bundles, if they aren’t dissolving quickly, adjust them so they are positioned right in front of a return. The agitation of the water hitting the bundle will help dissolve them quicker. I like to see the bundle bouncing about due to the water flow from the return.

Awesome, thanks for the advice, Lake Placid! Appreciate it!
