Just finished a lengthy SLAM for minor algae and cleaned by filter. I was way overdue for adding stablilizer.

Local small business pool store guy said to take out the filter basket, dump in the whole 4 lb bucket of stabilizer into pump basket (without the plaster filter in the basket), reprime, then put the plaster filter back in, and run it.

I should have donesome research here before doing it, but alas, i listened to him w the "easy way."

What's will be the consequences of that imperfect method? I can't undo it now, but was it really bad? Mitigating steps?

Thanks,
Ryan

Exactly why we avoid the pool store. Various things could happen:
- Plug your suction line
- Over acidic water to the pump
- Undissolved stabilizer will take much long to dissipate as opposed to using the sock method we advise here.

Definitely a no-no. Use the sock method. :goodjob:

So what to do now? I already dumped it. Dadgum pool stores. Not sure why I listened.

:brickwall: Well, I would watch the water flow in the pump for now. Make sure the line didn't get clogged-up. If not, you dodged the first bullet. The pump might be okay with just one nuclear dose of acid to it. As for the stabilizer itself, don't clean the filter for at least a week to give it time to dissolve in the filter pleats. It should all be dissolved in about a week.
