Hello,
I'm curious what adjustments I can expect to make to my SWG while adding CYA to my pool.
Current levels:
CYA-50-55
FC-5-5.5
SWG output 30%

My target numbers are:
CYA-80
FC-6

My question is:
Will adding CYA and keeping my output the same result in higher FC? Is it possible I will have to lower the output on my SWG because more CYA will hold more CL?
Thanks

Are you running your SWCG 24 hours per day.

I find if my CYA drops below 70 ppm from June through early Sept, my FC loss per day goes up. I see no effect by increasing above 70 ppm. Once from mid Sept to May, I just be sure the CYA is above 40 ppm or so.

My SWG runs for 18hrs a day. While my pool has been stable, I was only going to adjust my CYA because TFP suggests a higher amount which requires more FC. Are you suggesting that I keep it where it is?
Thanks

He is saying CYA 70 maintains the FC good for him. If your CYA “55” round up to 60…CYA is listed in the 10’s. If your SWG is maintaining constant FC at 60 (lowest end of recommended) you are good. You could raise to 70 & see how your pool maintains at 70 & lower how much FC your SWG needs to output. You can raise a bit at a time if you need to vs overshoot because that would require drain/replacing the water to lower.

The whole point of CYA is to help your SWG maintain FC.

If you are only running 18 hours a day you are creating just over 2 ppm FC per day. If the FC is stable, I would not add any CYA. Your FC loss is about half what I see in my pool.
