Adding chlorine

Since I've fully switched over to the TFP method I've had a crystal clear pool all summer. But wondering if I've been the most efficient as possible adding chlorine. I keep my CYA at 40 so my range of FC is 3-7 ppm. On sunny days I lose about 3 ppm a day. From my understanding you can swim in anything less than shock level and with a 3 ppm/daily loss, I shoot to add chlorine to hit the 7 ppm mark. Now here's what I do. When I test and I have to add some arbitrary less than a gallon number I round up to the gallon which gives me a 3.5 ppm add per pool math. After a couple of days I have a day where I don't have to add anything. Anybody else add like this or do you go strictly by the recommended number? I just hate to bust out the measuring cup. Any disadvantages that you can see from doing it my way?

I sort of think quite a few folks use your method. A lot of folks do that with muriatic acid too. They lay the jug in the water and just tip in the amount they think is about right. As long as it works for you (no algae!) I'd keep on.

You might benefit from taking your CYA up to 50 next year and see how that works for you with chlorine loss. I doubt I'd bother this late in the year though.

My only comment is not to go overboard and dump way too much more than necessary as that will just burn more off faster. A waste of money.
