Adding chlorine to a closed pool?

Is it okay to add chlorine to a closed pool? I closed while water temps are still in high 60's and even 70/71. Wanted to avoid the leaves from my neighbors sycamore tree and I was tired of spending time, money, and electricity into a pool that hasn't been used since July.

I drained the water down and added twice the SLAM amount of chlorine to the pool (5-6 gallons) but had my pool robot on and used a brush to spread the chlorine around. Any harm in adding chlorine to closed pool?

Thanks!

Adding chlorine at twice the SLAM level runs the risk of bleaching your liner.

Adding chlorine to a closed pool without circulating and mixing the water runs the risk of bleaching and wrinkling your liner.

What is the current temp of your pool water? What is the current chlorine level in your pool? I put my cover (mesh safety cover) on my pool but did not close it (blow out the lines). Once the water gets to 60 degrees, I’ll officially close it.

I wouldn’t add chlorine if I didn’t have a way to move the water around. With a cover off, you could take a brush and stir the water some but if I couldn’t do that, I don’t think I’d add chlorine. Test it and see where you’re at.

Figured it would run the risk of bleaching my liner but didn't think it'd wrinkle it! I was also considering diluting chlorine in buckets of water, mixing it and tossing it in the pool.

Temp is probably around 70 right now. It is a bit too warm to close but I wanted to get it over with. I do wish I did what you did and cover it but not close it! But what's done is done. I'll just deal with any green come spring time.
