Adding a Acid feeder

So I've had the pool for a year now and I'm sick of adding acid manually, I've researched on TFP and came to the conclusion I don't need one that senses pH, just a feeder that I dial in myself. Now my question is which one to get? I've looked around but all the ones I've found are part of a certain manufacturers automation system and none that tie into my Jandy Aqualink system. Is there a stand-alone feeder I can use?

I’m not much help yet. We have one going in with our build with no other automation. We’re in Australia and going with the astral eQuilibrium chlorinator. It’s a swg and acid doser in one from my understanding. Some people aren’t a fan of the probes, but ours comes standard with our pool so we’re going to see how it goes. I think during start up it will be really handy given how much acid you seem to need to keep the ph down.

Only decent system, imo, is the Pentair IntelllipH but you need either the iChlor or Intellichlor SWG's to work with it. Hayward released one this year but it only works with the new Aqua Rite Pro system. You can use either of these systems along with your Aqualink but they will not be controlled by Aqualink. As long as it is properly installed that shouldn't be an issue.

I use my aqualink to control an outlet where a Stenner pump is plugged into. I have it set to dose bleach daily and can easily turn it on for a few minutes to add more if necessary. I plan to use it for acid in the future.

Might be be something to look into.

So all I need to do is send power to turn the pump on and off, correct? There's no proprietary circuits or anything that requires Pentair, Hayward, etc... equipment to control the Pentair IntellipH or the Hayward acid feeder?

Jason,

I am not sure about Hayward, but the Pentair unit can operate from a probe that measures pH and dumps acid based upon the probes input.. My understanding is that does not work well and is not recommend by TFP.. But, it also has a "timed" output, which means it releases acid at a set rate for the amount of time that you turn it on.. In your case, you would turn it on with your Aux relay.

I had assumed that you were just planning on using a standard Stenner pump system and adding acid rather that chlorine...

Thanks,

Jim R.

Ill use whatever works best, not sold on one particular model I was just using the Pentair and Hayward as examples I've come across so far in my research. I'm pretty handy and came across the "DIY acid feeder" thread that has me intrigued as well. When you say "standard Stennar pump" could you please elaborate or provide a link? Thanks much as always.
