I got things going with opening the pool and it took me longer than I had expected. I wanted to start the SLAM process. So all is well until I added DE to the skimmer while recirculating! I didn´t even think about what was happening until I saw the plume enter the pool. What do I do now? I had planned to have my daughter and husband continue the SLAM process while I went with my students on our camping trip, and now ... this!

A couple choices. One is you can let it settle. Then slowly and carefully, with as little disturbing as possible, vacuum as much as you can back to the filter. Or you can brush and stir it up for it to eventually get into the skimmer and back to the filter.

TY! When I run the pool, I put it on filter now then? And now there is DE in the returns, I just wait until it cleans all the way out?
Did this harm other parts of the pool mechanisms? I know no one can really answer this for me, but since I upped the chlorine, what do I tell them to do in the two days Iĺl be gone?
Can I put things on recirculate and start again when I return? Thoughts?

Just leave it on filter. It will be fine. Whatever is suspended in the water should eventually get suckled into the skimmer. Anything not picked up will settle. Then it can be stirred-up again or just vacuum it later. It won't hurt anything. It's just an eyesore.
