Accidentally ran pump dry for about 4 hours...

Long story, short... I turned on the breaker in the garage around 11 AM before running out for a bit knowing I would prime when I returned. I didn’t realize the switch in the timer box was set to “On”. The pump ran dry for about four or so hours.

I’m now having an issues getting the water to keep flowing. I filled the basket and lines with water, sealed up the basket and turned the pump back on. I get an initial flow but then nothing

did I ruin my pump ( which I installed last spring :()? Or just missing something? I’m a newish pool owner, definitely still learning.

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum!

Well, bummer. The issue running the pump dry is heat. It can damage the seals and possibly warp the strainer basket lid. Can you tell if it got that hot?

Be sure you have cleaned and lubed the pump strainer gasket, the pump drain plugs, and any o-rings in unions on the suction side.

How far above the pool is the pump?

After checking all the above, try putting a hose in the skimmer at the pool directly in the pipe that goes to the pump. Force water to the pump.

Good luck.
