About that sock trick with CYA

What are you guys doing to get the CYA dissolved in 24 hours?

I’ve had socks filled with CYA, hanging in front of the return jet, for going on 4 days now. Still half full.

Cold being a relative term - but I notice my CYA takes longer to disolve at 50 degrees versus 85 degrees.

I hang my skimmer sock in the skimmer where the flow over the weir gate hits it (put the top of the sock in the lid when you close it). It dissolves pretty fast.

Interesting - when I squeeze the socks, it quickly comes out. I’m surprised the jet doesn’t accomplish the same.

Yeah - I thought that was strange.
I guess the return is pressing against one side of the sock and squeezing tends to mush the contents together more.

Anyway, glad you are getting the stabilizer to dissolve better now.

I always have to squeeze or shake my CYA. If it's warm I swim it around.

Someone on here gave a tip of buying those skimmer socks and using those for CYA. Way better than a sock. What I do is fill the skimmer sock with CYA, tie off with a zip tie, drop in skimmer, knead every so often, then cut off tie and reuse. Works perfectly.

This works great for me. No squeezing and CYA completely dissolves in 1 - 3 hours with spring time water temps in the 50s (F).
