I was recently contacted by a realtor asking for help getting pool winterized. Pool has not been used or maintained for several years. I used a skimming net to drag muck sticks debris even fiberglass insulation that found it's way to bottom of pool. I drained pool down to 1 for on shallow end which left 5 for on deep end. I have scrubbed algae from sides and bottom as best as I can tell. Pool water is too cloudy to see if there is still algae on bottom, however I have scrubbed and swept pool daily for 10 days straight. Before turning on pump I replaced and in filter and scrubbed Hayward 300# filter before replacing sand. I am at a loss what to do now. I listened to guy at pool store who said I needed phosphate remover to get rid of cloudiness. After reading threads here I now know that was not good idea. I wish I found this site before starting pool. Water has a greenish hue still keeping my visibility impossible. What would you recommend to proceed with. I am concerned that pipesplumbing could be infected with algae. I tried Slam method my chlorine levels are still high. Where do I go from here.

Welcome to TFP.

Chlorine, chlorine, and more chlorine is what you need.

SLAM is a process that can take weeks to clear a large algae outbreak. If you follow the SLAM Process it will always work.

What test kit are you using?

Are you using PoolMath?

Post your water chemistry.

Post pictures of the pool.
