I am learning about pool maintenance and keep having high levels across the top 5 so looking to see best practices for balance. Live in Arizona and am chicken for cold water. Looking to see how to extend those amazing 84º water temps. Can you believe it gets up to 92º in my pool in summer! I love it. Also looking to see how I can close the pool without a real cover. lots of dust/dirt and leaves blow into the pool all year round. Freeform pool shape and rock features make a cover a bit difficult

Welcome to TFP!!!

One of the foundations of TFP is self testing. Here are our recommended kits. Link-->Test Kits Compared
Basics of pool care Link-->Pool Care Basics
Free Chlorine levels are super important. Link-->FC/CYA Levels
And an article on recommended levels:

There's no need to close your pool at all as that is for parts of the country that get freezes. Your pool skimmer and your manual pole skimmer are what you need to keep it clean year round. You can brush dirt on the floor down to the main drains or you can get a robot or pool vacuum that can clean the floor for you. I manually clean mine often due to the willow trees behind my house. Most important is to take back your pool and do everything yourself. Follow the links from PoolStored. It's really pretty easy to do if you follow the TFP methods. 100s of thousands of us do this and we have clear and sanitary water year 'round. Consider getting a salt water chlorine generator which helps automate your pool maintenance. It also sounds like you're in the market for a pool heater so read through the Pool School for information about that. The Wiki will help you too. Also, fill out your signature so we know the details about your pool and pool equipment. The signature can be found in your profile found at the top right of the page.
