My heater has been limping along the last couple of years, and finally this season it won’t fire up at all anymore. I have a vinyl liner, and my pool is about 15 by 34 ft rectangle. My deep end is about 8 feet deep to the best of my knowledge. I have a Hayward sand filter and had to get a new pump like 3 to 4 years ago. The current heater looks super old. It’s a raypack and is only 180;000 BTU’s. I’m looking at a new raypack heater, but I think it should have a higher btu rating than the old heater had. The old heater took about 2 days to get the pool up into the high 80’s temps my family prefers. Our typical usage is on the weekends when my grown children will bring my grandkids to hang out and swim over the weekends. I typically turn the heater on Thursday evenings, running it as needed until the last guest would depart on Sunday afternoon. Typically then no one would swim during the Monday through Thursday evening part of the week. Do you folks agree I should be going bigger in the heater capacity rating for this purchase?
I do not have a salt water chlorine generator. I use liquid chlorine to sanitize my pool. I’m in Minnesota where the water is extremely hard and the battle to keep down the TA is ever present. I want a natural gas heater again.
