How much household bleach do I need?

Welcome to TFP! Sounds like your on the right track switching to straight chlorine instead being pool stored. First you should get a reliable test kit.
You can compare test kits here: http://www.troublefreepool.com/content/124-pool-test-kits-comparison

I recommend this one, it has everything you need and a good value: http://tftestkits.net/TF-100-Test-Kit-p4.html

Also the more info you post about your pool type, equipment, etc the better help you'll get. Read this: http://www.troublefreepool.com/content/115-read-before-you-post

Use the "PoolMath" calculator up top ^ there.

For 30,000 gallons to get from 0 to 6ppm you will need 271 ounces of 8.25% bleach or 373 oz of 6% bleach and you'll have to add more every day.

Of course, we would need more details to help you any more than that. Without an accurate water test for all the chemical levels, there's not much advice we can give. Get some good test results and post them! :)
